Tooth Extraction

Have you been told a tooth may need to come out, but want to know whether it can be saved? An exam comes before that decision.

What Can Tooth Extraction Help You Address?

A tooth is badly damaged

Before removal, ask how much sound tooth remains and whether repair is still possible.

A tooth is loose or painful

The cause and surrounding support need assessment before deciding whether extraction is appropriate.

You are worried about the gap

If removal is needed, discuss healing and whether or when the missing tooth should be replaced.

Dr. Hsieh evaluates the tooth, nearby structures and your medical history. He will explain the proposed approach, recovery considerations and any plan for the space afterward.

Your Visit, Step by Step

Confirm the treatment need

Examine the tooth and relevant imaging and discuss alternatives when appropriate.

Remove the tooth

Use suitable anesthesia and an extraction approach based on the tooth’s condition.

Explain recovery and next steps

Review aftercare and discuss follow-up or tooth replacement when needed.

Ongoing Care

Follow the aftercare instructions provided for your procedure. Contact the office about bleeding that does not settle, worsening pain or swelling, or other concerns during recovery.

Common Questions

Can the tooth be repaired instead?

Ask about this during your assessment. The remaining tooth structure, infection and supporting tissues help determine whether repair is possible.

Will I need to replace the missing tooth?

It depends on the tooth’s location, your bite and the wider treatment plan. Replacement options can be discussed before removal.

How long is recovery?

Recovery varies with the tooth and the procedure. Dr. Hsieh will explain what to expect and when to contact the office.
